Roofline, as a core supply chain partner for the warings group were contacted at design stage to provide specialist assistance to look at the large roof areas which required renewal to meet current building regulations. The original specification was to remove the composite roof panels and replace with new. However, after a site survey, Roofline advised that a refurbishment overlay solution was possible, which would halve the installation time required for the works and allow internal works to commence much earlier in the programme. A special mineral wool Insulation was laid between the composite sheet profiles to improve acoustic performance, followed by CFC and HCFC free rigid urethane insulation and finished with a high performance synthetic single ply membrane. Barrel vaulted rooflights are installed at the ridge lines to provide natural daylight above the main stair areas. By retaining the existing composite roof sheeting system, Roofline saved 150 tons of waste, making the building thermally and acoustically efficient without adding to local landfill and significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the refurbishment works.
